Basic White Bread

Other than in a bread machine, I haven't really made bread before, but want to start making it, so this was my first attempt.  I don't think I let it rise enough, so the loaf was kind of small and a little dense (but really not too bad), but altogether actually very good.

  • 1 (1/4 oz) pkg yeast
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 Tbsp dry milk
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
Mix ingredients.  Cover with a clean towel and let rise until doubled in size.  Form into a loaf and place into bread pan.  Bake at 350° until golden brown and bread sounds hollow when you knock on it - about 1 hour.
